SAAL
«SAAL in the Alentejo and the right to habitation» is a program promoted by Sete Anos. It evokes the SAAL experience in order to reflect on housing as a common good in the present. It consists of a series of workshops, a film series, an exhibition, talks and guided tours of the SAAL neighborhoods in the municipality of Grândola. It is a project conceived by Luísa Veloso (sociologist) and João Lima (architect), developed by a team of professionals (artists, architects and researchers) and aimed at the local community. Based on the Unidos Venceremos and Vale Pereiro neighborhoods, their present-day experience and the memory of SAAL as a democratic movement, it aims to reflect on housing as a common good and the right to it. It involves professionals and non-professionals, promoting people's access to creation in order to realize their cultural rights. It promotes work aimed at sharing the memories of those who lived through the SAAL project with younger people, as well as current residents of the neighborhoods. The memorial work aims to promote reflection on contemporary issues such as housing, lifestyles and the reconfiguration of territories. The project's distinctive feature is that it is a cultural program made up of different activities involving its inhabitants and that it constitutes a critical reflection on themes with an unquestionable impact on people's lives. It is a project anchored in the professional careers of Luísa Veloso and João Lima, who have reflected on the theme of the SAAL initiative, and in the artistic career of Cláudia Dias, for whom creation is a political act of reflection on current challenges.
